Coinciding with Emirates Airline’s launch of a non-stop service from Dubai to Venice on July 1st, Emirates SkyCargo has announced that it will accept cargo on these flights, which will operate five times per week, increasing to a daily service on September 1st.
Venice is Italy’s fourth largest airport, handling nearly half of the country’s total freight traffic, 43.7% of which is shipped by air.
With excellent access to intermodal transportation channels and the opening of the EU to include Eastern Europe, Venice is now strategically placed to manage trade from Italy’s North-East and from neighbouring countries Austria, Slovenia and Croatia.
Local authorities feel that there is excellent potential for Venice to build trade with Dubai as a key access point to the Far East.
According to Enrico Marchi, S.A.V.E. Venice Airport chairman, the city has long needed a non-stop connection to the Middle East, a region currently served only via European hubs.
