12/11/2007 10:24:22 AM

Tokyo-based Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd. is set to become the first Japanese shipping company to begin full-scale operation of a 300,000 MT deadweight-ton class very large iron ore carrier (VLOC) with the naming on Friday of the Brasil Maru at the Chiba yard of Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co. Ltd.
The 327,180 dwt vessel will from next year transport about 1.4 million tons of Brazilian iron ore annually to Japan under a long-term contract with Nippon Steel Corp.
MOL will have five same size VLOCs in operation by August.
