COSCO Container Lines orders twenty vessels from Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, and Seaspan orders five new vessels from Samsung Heavy Industries.
China's COSCO Container Lines has awarded a US$1.4 billion contract to Yangzijiang Shipbuilding to build twenty 4,250 TEU containerships (sixteen plus four options), for delivery between 2011 and 2012.
Seaspan Corp has signed contracts with Samsung Heavy Industries for the building of five new 4,520 TEU container vessels for delivery between September 2010 and October 2011.
Concurrent with the signing of the newbuilding contracts, the company has signed twelve-year time charters with K-Line.
In September last year, Seaspan signed contracts worth around $1.2 billion with Hyundai Heavy Industries for the building of eight new 13,100 TEU container vessels, for delivery between January and October 2011.
Seaspan’s newbuilding delivery schedule includes 39 vessels between 2008 and 2011, six of which are to be delivered this year.
