Brazilian airline TAM Linhas Aereas (TAM) has signed firm orders for a total of 46 Airbus planes.
Airbus didn't provide a value for the TAM order, but on the basis of its catalog prices, it would be worth in excess of US$6.53 billion.
The order includes 22 wide-bodied A350 XWB jets and four A330s that TAM committed itself to last year but didn't sign firm orders for.
Airbus said TAM has also signed new firm orders for an additional 20 of Airbus' A320 family of single-aisle aircraft for use on short to medium-haul routes.
TAM is Airbus' biggest customer in the Southern Hemisphere, currently operating a fleet of 102 Airbus aircraft.
The TAM order for A350s brings to 314 the total number of orders for the aircraft booked so far this year. Airbus plans to get the plane into service with customer airlines by 2013.
