Hamburg Süd will in mid-February add a fifth vessel to its Southern Route service from North Europe to the East Mediterranean.
The extra vessel, the 1,900-TEU Santa Monica, will upgrade the service to a fixed-day weekly frequency as well as allowing for the addition of Valencia to the rotation, from where the German carrier is about to start a weekly feeder link to Tunis. The carrier's existing Europe/Tunis/Salerno shuttle will be discontinued, although Hamburg Süd said it will continue to serve all of the ports either directly or via feeder services.
The revised itinerary of the Southern Route service will be Felixstowe, Hamburg, Antwerp, Valencia, Alexandria, Beirut, Lattakia, Mersin, Izmir, Salerno, and back to Felixstowe.
The new Valencia call will also link with the South America services of Hamburg Süd and its new Italian acquistion Costa Container Lines.
