The Atlas Air Cargo Terminal (AACT) in Incheon International Airport, completed only three months ago, has collapsed in torrential rain, reported Korea's chosun.com newsite.
Polar Air Cargo invested KRW17.3 billion (US$17.1 million) to build the AACT, which was completed in April.
Heavy rains dumped 62 millimetres an hour and left one person missing. It inundated houses and roads in the Seoul metropolitan area and western part of Gangwon province.
Part of the roof of the terminal caved in with water making a hole 20-30 metres in length and destroying a four-ton crane.
Over 30 tons of cargo in the terminal were removed. The destroyed roof is a so-called "sandwich panel", made of two 12.5-centemetre thick iron plates with insulation in-between.
Incheon International Airport Corporation officials said the roof was unable to bear the weight of standing water resulting from blocked drains.
