Port Klang introduces container charge

8/5/2008 9:56:07 AM

The Malaysian Container Depot Association has announced a Depot Gate Charge (DGC) will be levied on shippers using Port Klang from August 1, the Business Times reports.

The charge of US$1.50 for every empty container that is returned to, or taken from, their depots in Penang, Port Klang and Pasir Gudang, is payable by the container hauliers who will then bill the shippers.

This follows a government decision to reduce the time that containers can stay free of charge at Port Klang from five to three days. This will come into effect January 1, 2009.
