Great Lakes Cleveland Port may be linked to new deep-water port in Nova Scotia

8/29/2008 10:29:29 AM

The potential to link the Port of Cleveland to a proposed US$400 million deep-water port in Melford, Nova Scotia, is said to have impressed touring Canadian businessmen.

Melford International Terminal Inc plans to open the new deep-water port in 2011, to attract container traffic moving across the Atlantic Ocean to congested US east coast ports, reports The Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Furthermore, port officials in Cleveland and elsewhere on the Great Lakes are keen to see some of the cargo move from Melford down the St Lawrence Seaway to Midwest markets, it said.
