Australian shipbuilder Austal said it has completed sea trials of the world's fastest diesel-powered ferry, achieving a peak speed of 55.9 knots.
The 65-meter-long Shinas is the first of two vehicle-passenger catamarans being built for the Sultanate of Oman at Austal’s facilities in Henderson, Western Australia.
Each vessel will have a service speed of 52 knots and carry 208 passengers and 56 vehicles along a 180-nautical-mile route between Shinas, near the border between Oman and United Arab Emirates, and Oman’s Musandam Peninsular.
