Three months of cargo drops

10/14/2008 9:38:24 AM

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) says global freight traffic contracted 2.7 per cent in August as carriers in Asia Pacific flew less cargo.

Freight shipped by Asia-Pacific carriers accounts for about 45 per cent of the global air cargo market, it said.

"A three-month decline, led by weakness in Asia-Pacific markets, is a clear indication that global trade is slowing down," IATA said. "This shows that the impact of the financial crisis is broad geographically and will worsen before it gets better."
