China’s Air China says it will continue to increase capacity in 2009 and that it has seen signs of improvement in its cargo and passenger businesses.
The airline intends to take delivery of 27 aircraft this year, return between eight and 10 leased aircraft and cut capital spending by up to 30 per cent, chairman Kong Dong said.
It reported a net profit of 981 million yuan (US$143.6 million) in the first quarter of 2009, including an exceptional gain helped by lower fuel costs.
