Samudera Shipping Line has added a third Indian subcontinent feeder service with a fortnightly operation connecting Singapore, Chittagong and Haldia.
The Chittagong Haldia Express (CHX) started July 10 from Singapore and uses one 1,100-TEU vessel.
Samudera already operates two other Indian subcontinent feeders, the Chittagong Express (CGX) and the Calcutta Haldia Express (CALEX).
“The rationale for the new CHX service was driven by robust demand for cargo to and from Chittagong, Calcutta and Haldia," said Dhrubajyoti Das, Samudera's executive director. "This new service will enhance our network coverage of the Indian Subcontinent and will also offer customers better frequency and service reliability, in addition to added flexibility."
Samudera highlighted that the Port of Chittagong handled 435,157 TEUs in the first five months of 2008, up nearly 15 percent compared to the same period a year ago.
