Hapag-Lloyd Hikes East Asia Rates

3/8/2012 10:20:34 AM

Hapag-Lloyd is seeking a series of general rate increases on East Asia services, as part of a new rate restoration program.

The German ocean carrier said rates from East Asia (excluding Japan) and Oceania to the Indian subcontinent will increase by $150 per 20-foot container, effective March 15.

From Japan to the Indian subcontinent, the carrier’s proposed rate hike will be $250 per 20-foot container, starting April 1.

Rates on all cargo moving from Japan to the Red Sea will attract an increase of $250 per 20-foot container, starting April 1.

From Japan to Australia, the GRI will be $250 per 20-foot container, also starting April 1.

Hapag-Lloyd said it will apply an increase of $300 per 20-foot container on all shipments from North East Asia to Australia, effective April 15.

The subcontinent region includes ports in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
