CONTINENTAL Airlines is commencing daily non-stop flights between Shanghai, China and its New York area hub at Newark Liberty International Airport, and through flight service between Shanghai and Cleveland beginning March 26 2009, subject to government approval.
The carrier has operated flights between Beijing and New York since 2000 and between Hong Kong and New York since 2001, it said in a company statement.
"We are excited about extending our China route network to include non-stop service to Shanghai," said Jim Compton, Continental's executive vice president of Marketing. "Shanghai is the largest Pacific market currently not served by Continental and offers significant opportunities for growth in the future."
Continental will operate the non-stop flight daily with a Boeing 777-200 aircraft. Flight CO86 will depart Shanghai at 15:45 hrs, arriving in Newark Liberty International Airport in the evening of the same day at 18:20 hrs. The return flight CO87 will depart Newark Liberty International Airport at 11:20 hrs and arrive in Shanghai mid-afternoon the following day at 13:45 hrs. Flying times will be approximately 14 hours and 30 minutes in each direction.
The flight will be timed to provide convenient roundtrip connections at Continental's New York hub to more than 60 other cities throughout the United States and Canada.
