Dusseldorf attracts new flights in 2009

1/15/2009 9:41:51 AM

The popularity of Düsseldorf as both a passenger and cargo/distibution centre for the Northern half of Germany has encouraged many airlines to operate at this airport.

Ghana International Airlines started a B757 service in November last year, which will become daily very shortly and from summer, Icelandair will commence a B757 service from Reykjavik to Düsseldorf daily, whilst Mahan Air is already operating four flights per week with an A310 and will expand to daily frequencies shortly.

Gerton Hulsman, managing Director of DUS Cargo Logistics, the biggest cargo handler at the airport is delighted that the high passenger profile provides excellent cargo capacity.

“This is Germany’s third largest airport with over 18 million passengers and a potential of some 300,000 tones of cargo per annum and serving 170 destinations worldwide,” said Gerton Hulsman, managing Director of DUS Cargo Logistics, the biggest cargo handler at the airport.

Being at the heart of North Rhine Westphalia, Germany’s leading industrial and commercial region, accounting for 32 percent of Germany’s GDP, the airport and logistics network distribute goods throughout Northern Germany, the Benelux and Europe.
