At least 17 small Indonesian regular airlines will either become chartered flight operators or be closed down in June as they aren't expected to be able to meet new requirements on the minimum amount of aircraft they have to own, Dow Jones reported.
"Starting June 25, they will no longer operate as regular airlines," said Tri Sunoko, director general of air transportation at the Transportation Ministry.
The government last year enacted a regulation that requires regular airlines to own at least 10 airplanes by June 25.
Among the 17 airlines are Bali International Air Services, Star Air, Air Paradise International, Bouraq Indonesia, Pelita Air Services, Deraya Air and Adam Skyconnection Airlines.
