Qatar Airways is busy preparing for its second route launch of the year with its latest Indian gateway being added to an ever-growing international route network from June 15.
The southern coastal city of Kozhikode, formerly known as Calicut, will be the airline’s 83rd route with daily non-stop scheduled flights from Doha. It also heralds further expansion into Kerala State for Qatar Airways, which already operates to Cochin and Trivandrum.
Kozhikode is Kerala’s third largest city with a population of almost 500,000 people and home to serene beaches, historic sites, lush green scenery and world-renowned Ayurvedic health treatments – a haven for holidaymakers seeking adventure and relaxation.
The new route would have tremendous appeal for expatriate Keralites living and working in the Gulf region, as well as tourists from across Europe and other parts of the world.
Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker said India remained one of the airline’s fastest growing markets. The new route follows the successful launch of flights between Doha and the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou in March.
“Our new flights take our capacity into India up to 58 flights a week spread across nine cities, including Dellhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Cochin, Trivandrum, Nagpur and Hyderabad.”
