Container lines in the ESPMC-WITASS conference are about to introduce a peak season surcharge of 310 euros per TEU for all southbound cargo in the trade between Europe and the Caribbean.
The six conference members - Container Cargo Lines Inc., CMA CGM, Compania Sud Americana de Vapores (CSAV), Hamburg Sud, Hapag-Lloyd and “K” Line -- said very strong cargo flows in the trade are giving rise to higher operational costs than usual.
The peak season surcharge will take effect from the following southbound sailings:
• Torge S, voyage 8134S
• CSAV Rio Baker, 8234S
• CMA CGM Castilla, 8333S
The charge will remain in force until Oct. 17 when the conference will shut down for good to coincide with the repeal of the liner conference exemption in Europe.
