Foreign airlines may get OK to invest in Indian peers

1/3/2009 9:39:07 AM

The Indian government is considering a proposal to allow foreign airline companies to hold a 20 percent to 25 percent stake in domestic carriers, the Economic Times reported.

The proposal, however, says foreign airlines can have only a limited role on the boards and in the management of the Indian companies they invest in.

Singapore Airlines has shown interest in buying stakes in Indian airline companies, but has been prevented by foreign investment rules.
