FedEx's Memphis airport hub world's busiest for cargo

FedEx Corp's home airport in Memphis, Tenn, remained the world's busiest for cargo in 2008, weathering a decline in shipping during the recession and a challenge from Hong Kong, the National Post reported. Almost 3.7 million tonnes of cargo moved through Memphis International Airport, a drop of 3.8 percent from 2007. The volume was enough to stay ahead of Hong Kong's total of about 3.63 million tonnes, a 3.1 percent slide. Faster-growing international shipments, particularly from China, had led to predictions that Hong Kong would unseat Memphis in 2008, said Robert Dahl, managing director of Air Cargo Management Group.
