Lufthansa Cargo has begun MD-11 freighter service from Milan-Malpensa Airport to New York JFK and Chicago on February 18th.
The twice-weekly service will operate on the Milan - New York JFK - Chicago - Milan route.
According to Lufthansa Cargo chairman Carsten Spohr, Italy is Europe's major airfreight market after Germany. The carrier already offers the Italian market belly capacity on its passenger aircraft and cargo capacities on Lufthansa Italia flights within Europe as well as an extensive road services network.
Lufthansa Cargo's Chinese subsidiary, Jade Cargo International, also connects the Italian market with direct flights to industrial centres in Asia, with four weekly B747-400F flights from Shenzhen and Shanghai to Brescia.
