Australia’s low fares airline Jetstar has announced it will adjust pricing across its international network including the full removal of fuel surcharges on trans Tasman, international short and long haul A330-200* services in response to lower oil and jet fuel prices.
Effective from midnight 12 February 2009 AEDT Jetstar will remove its existing AUD$35 (USD$25.52**) surcharge on its short haul Asian services from point of sale Vietnam. This will include the airline’s five times weekly Ho Chi Minh City-Darwin-Sydney service.
Fuel surcharges to fares across the Jetstar brands and flying networks from Australia and within Asia including Jetstar Asia/Valuair and Jetstar Pacific operations, will also be removed effective midnight 12 February 2009 AEDT.
Jetstar Pacific previously announced the removal of its domestic fuel surcharge in December 2008.
The announcement follows the removal from 1 January 2009 of all domestic fuel surcharges by Jetstar and Qantas.
Jetstar Chief Executive Officer Bruce Buchanan said the airline’s all inclusive fares would continue to present the lowest price across all the markets it served domestically and internationally, backed up by the carrier’s ‘Price Beat Guarantee’.
Mr Buchanan said the removal of its international fuel surcharges would provide customers greater simplicity and transparency in its fares.
“The removal of international fuel surcharges by Jetstar will see have the flexibility to continuously deliver Jetstar’s low fares,” Mr Buchanan said.
“All our fares are covered by our Price Beat Guarantee in which we will beat any fare on the same route at a similar time with another carrier by 10 per cent should it be lower than the advertised fare on Jetstar.com.
“Based on our sustainable low cost operations Jetstar has always sought to lead the market in offering the lowest all inclusive fares across our flying network.
“As the fastest growing international airline operating to and from Australia our market positioning to be able to deliver every day value for money fares is only further reinforced by this decision.”
