United Arab Shipping Co. has received the first of eight 6,900-TEU ships ordered from Hyundai Heavy Industries in March 2005 at a total cost of $850 million.
The Al Safat was delivered to UASC in Ulsan, South Korea. The remaining seven vessels will be delivered throughout the year.
Kuwait-based UASC ranks as the 21st-largest container line in the world operating 39 vessels with a combined fleet capacity of 95,000 TEUs and an order book that will nearly double that figure, according to the statistics supplied by AXS-Alphaliner.
