Brazil airline Azul launches cargo service

8/28/2009 10:24:12 AM

Brazilian airline Azul Linhas Aereas will launch a new cargo service, opening a new front in its battle to grab share of the domestic aviation market dominated by TAM and GOL Linhas Aereas Inteligentes, Dow Jones reported.

Azul said it would use free space on its commercial flights for cargo rather than have dedicated flights.

Currently, Azul operates 12 Embraer 190 and 195 planes on a series of regional routes.

In July, Azul commanded 4.7 percent of domestic commercial traffic after starting operations late last year.
