Air passengers faced disruption yesterday after a computer failure at an air traffic control centre paralysed airports across southern England for several hours, the Daily Telegraph reported.
Nearly 100 flights were cancelled, with Heathrow, Gatwick and Luton the worst hit.
The glitch, which effectively closed down airspace across southern England for more than an hour, led to dozens of other aircraft being held at airports across Europe while the problem was investigated.
The fault occurred at the Swanwick air traffic control centre in Hampshire which is operated by National Air Traffic Services (Nats), the privatised company in charge of air traffic control.
