Schenker confirmed that Schenker China Ltd has NOT ceased all operations.
Schenker will continue to provide reliable ocean freight services from and to China through its registered organisations in Hong Kong and Shanghai, Schenker Logistics (Shanghai) Co and Schenker International (HK), both of which hold valid NVOCC licences, as acknowledged by China’s Ministry of Communications. Neither of these organisations are affected by the allegations that the company is operating with fraudulent licences.
Schenker is co-operating closely with the Chinese authorities to clear the case as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, the operations of Schenker China Ltd cover more than just ocean freight business, and only the ocean freight business is affected by the MoC decision.
In another report, Lloyds List quoted Xiong Wei, director of the MoC’s international shipping administration division, as saying: “Faking documents can be a criminal offence, and the Schenker case is now being processed by the ministry of public security [the police].”
Xiong suggested two possibilities regarding the case: The documents in question were either created by a Schenker staff member or an appointed external agent, and the offence would be far more serious if Schenker were aware of the faking.
According to Xiong, more than a hundred companies are suspected of operating in China without valid licences.
