South Korean rescuers have reportedly found the wreckage of a tanker that disappeared Christmas with 14 crewmen.
The 13,000 dwt tanker Eastern Bright was reportedly carrying a load of 2,000 tons of nitric acid from the port of Yeosu in Korea to Taiwan when it disappeared. One crewman was rescued shortly after the ship went down, but hopes of finding others were considered slim.
Reportedly the ship went down within 10 minutes after it began shaking, but it was not clear what caused the sinking.
Reports quote South Korea Coast Guard officials as saying the nitric acid was not expected to pose a major pollution hazard because it would be rapidly diluted by the ocean.
