Hamburg Sud Maersk Line have vowed to continue their joint weekly Asia/South Africa/East Coast South America ASAS/NGX service after NYK's decision to leave the consortium and start a rival loop with Hyundai Merchant Marine.
The European carriers will from April phase in 10 5,500-TEU vessels (the service has operated with 10 ships averaging 2,600 TEUs) over eight months or so to replace the ships NYK is pulling.
The ASAS/NGX will also be adjusted to have a new rotation of Nagoya, Yokohama, Busan, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Tanjung Pelapas, Durban, Sepetiba, Santos, Buenos Aires, Rio Grande, Itajai/Sao Francisco do Sul, Paranagua, Santos, Port Elizabeth, Durban, Singapore, Hong Kong and back to Nagoya.
