United Airlines drops Manchester cargo service

9/1/2008 10:17:56 AM

The paring of passenger routes by airlines hard-pressed to stop financial losses is having an impact on shippers too.

United Airlines Cargo announced Wednesday that it is immediately terminating cargo service at Manchester-Boston Regional Airport in New Hampshire. No more cargo will be accepted or received at that destination.

Manchester the type of smaller city that is falling victim to airline cutbacks due to higher fuel prices and softening demand during weak economic times. Earlier this month, United embargoed cargo transport to and from Cancun, Mexico, and Kansas City.

On Sept. 2, United also plans to cease cargo operations at Palm Beach International Airport in Florida and at La Aurora International Airport in Guatemala City.
