Emirates SkyCargo, based in Dubai, started a new direct Dubai-to-Los Angeles service Sunday.
An Emirates’ 777-200LR landed at Los Angeles International Airport to kick off the thrice-weekly service, which offers up to 10 tons of cargo capacity in each direction.
Emirates officials expect U.S. exports of mainly agricultural products and mail, while imports to the United States will include mostly textiles and movie films from India.
Los Angeles marks the third U.S. destination Emirates has launched since June 2007, following Toledo, Ohio and Houston. In December, Emirates plans to begin direct air freight service from Dubai to San Francisco.
