Qantas Airways has unveiled plans to increase services between Sydney and Johannesburg in South Africa, from five to six flights each week, starting December 16 2008.
The new service will be operated by a Boeing 747-400 aircraft. "South Africa is an important market for Qantas for both business and leisure travel. This new service will add another 350 seats per week, and more than 18,000 seats per year, on the route," said executive general manager John Borghetti in a company statement.
The new Sydney-Johannesburg return service will operate at the same times as Qantas' current service. Flight QF63 departs Sydney at 1030 hours and arrives in Johannesburg at 1530 hrs. Return service, QF64, departs Johannesburg at 1750 hrs and arrives in Sydney at 1435 hrs plus one day, the carrier said.
The sixth flight will operate on Tuesdays until January 27, 2009 and then on Saturdays from February 7 next year.
Mr Borghetti said Qantas intends to add a seventh weekly service on the route which would see the airline operate daily between Sydney and South Africa. South African Airways will code share on all six services subject to regulatory approval.
