Rotterdam eyes linkup with Indian ports

2/19/2008 10:53:14 AM

Port of Rotterdam port officials visited India last week and indicated they would be interested in setting up partnerships in Indian ports.

“We’re not interested in cargo-handling and other day-to-day port operations,” Pieter Struijs, president and director, Port of Rotterdam, told the Hindu Business Line.

Rotterdam has a cooperative arrangement with a port in Oman, Struijis said, and could look to set up a similar arrangement with one or more ports in India, most likely acting as a manager of a port or terminal in a landlord model.

Holland's transport minister also met with India's shipping minister to discuss potential collaborations, including development of inland waterways and dredging to cope with India's fast growing maritime sector.
