Australia's Virgin Blue Holdings has announced that it is delaying the launch of its international long haul airline, V Australia, by 11 weeks due to a strike at Boeing’s aircraft factory in Seattle, Dow Jones reported.
The airline said it now plans to commence services between Sydney and Los Angeles from February 28, 2009, after Boeing said it cannot confirm the delivery date of the first of three Boeing 777-300ER aircraft currently under production to operate on the services.
The delay is the latest obstacle in what has been a tough year for Virgin Blue.
Australia's second-largest airline recorded a 55 percent drop in annual net profit for the year ended June 30 due to record high fuel prices, and said then that it faced the toughest outlook it had seen in its eight-year history.
