US, EU reach cargo-screening agreement

11/3/2008 9:28:53 AM

The Transportation Security Administration has reached agreement with the European Union for screening air cargo on U.S.-bound passenger aircraft, the agency announced Friday.

The TSA said that under the agreement, the EU will establish screening procedures that are consistent with the requirements of the Implementing Recommendations of the 9/11 Commission Act of 2007. The law calls for 50 percent of all cargo on passenger flights to be screened by February 2009.
