Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved a plan to build a US$969.7 million international airport in southern Vietnam, Dow Jones reported.
The airport will cover more than 900 hectares in the tourist island of Phu Quoc, 300 kilometres west of Ho Chi Minh City.
The airport will be capable of receiving large aircraft, including Boeing 767s or Boeing 747-400s, and will have enough parking space for 27 planes.
It will be designed to handle 14,300 metric tonnes of cargo every year by 2020. By 2030, it will be capable of handling 27,600 metric tons of cargo every year.
The government didn't say who will build the airport or when construction will begin.
